Forest therapy, also known as forest bathing or Shinrin-yoku, is the practice of slowing down and mindfully immersing yourself in the natural world. Forest therapy invites you to move gently, notice your surroundings, and engage your senses in a way that allows your body and mind to settle.
You may begin to notice the sound of wind through the trees, the texture of bark beneath your hands, the shifting light, or the rhythm of your own breath.
Forest therapy is supported by a growing body of research that shows measurable benefits for both physical and mental wellbeing.
Spending intentional, mindful time in nature has been shown to:
• reduce cortisol levels (the body’s primary stress hormone)
• lower blood pressure and heart rate
• support immune system function
• improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
• increase focus, clarity, and cognitive function
• enhance creativity and problem-solving
• support emotional regulation and resilience
Nature also engages the senses in a way that gently brings the nervous system out of a constant “doing” state and into a more restorative, parasympathetic state, often described as “rest and restore.”
But beyond the science, many people experience something harder to measure and just as meaningful:
A sense of calm.
A feeling of being grounded.
A quiet return to themselves.
With Wild Whimsy, forest therapy is both a practice of presence and a way of remembering our place within the living world. This work is rooted in the understanding that nature is not separate from us. There is no goal to achieve and no outcome to force. You are simply invited to slow your pace, engage your senses, notice what arises within you and around you, and allow space for reflection. Each experience is open-ended and personal. There is no right way to participate. Nature meets you where you are.
Underlying the Wild Whimsy approach is a quiet reverence for the natural world that is deeply aligned with earth-based and ancestral traditions. Many nature-honoring paths recognize the land as alive, interconnected, and worthy of respect. The earth that holds us, the trees that shade us, the waters that cool us, and all other elements of nature are part of a living system that we belong to. This perspective is gently held in the way Wild Whimsy experiences are guided:
• with respect for the land and its rhythms
• with awareness of seasonal cycles and natural patterns
• with openness to intuition, symbolism, and personal meaning
• with space for participants to experience connection in their own way
For some, this may feel spiritual.
For others, it may simply feel calming and grounding.
All are welcome.
